The Studio
Russell & George is an internationally recognised award winning architecture & design studio employing architects, designers, theorists, strategists & urbanists. We work globally and have completed built projects on four continents, in cities as diverse as New York, Seoul, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Auckland and Rome. This is in addition to projects in all Australian states.
Led by Directors and registered architects, Ryan Russell and Byron George, we deliver successful projects at any scale from object to large scale architecture. With backgrounds in social theory and hospitality, both Directors approach every project with a thorough examination of the unique set of circumstances that led to the project in the first place.
The practice has won many national and international design awards, particularly in the retail and hospitality areas, including two World Retail Design awards. In 2018 the practice won the prestigious Premier Award at the Australian Interior Design Awards - considered the top prize for an interior design project in Australia. The same year saw it win runner up in workplace at the World Architecture Festival, and Best Restaurant Design in the world at the Frame Awards in Amsterdam.
In 2021 the studio received The Award for Interior Design Impact for Space & Time at the Australian Interior Design Awards. This award recognizes the transformative effect that design can have on a building’s occupants and the wider community within the Australian context.
In 2022 the studio also received the award for Designer of the Year at the Interior Design Excellence Awards & The Marion Mahony Award for Interior Architecture for Yakimono & Society, from the Australian National Architecture Awards, Victorian Chapter.
